Two days of rain have helped firefighters to extinguish the blaze which broke out on Monday on the mountain in Murdock Valley, Simon’s Town.
While an area high up the slopes remains ablaze, most of the flames have been doused, said Theo Lane, spokesperson for the City of Cape Town Fire and Rescue Services.
After the wind on Monday fanned the flames, the rain has brought welcome relief, he said.
“Our team will remain on the scene until the fire is completely extinguished.”
No property was threatened and no one was injured.
The cause of the blaze is not known. The source of vegetation fires is notoriously difficult to determine without eyewitnesses, Lane said. News24
