Ramadan Kids quiz aims to boost literacy

Parents are urged to encourage their children to compete in the Voice of the Cape (VOC) Ramadan Children’s Quiz aimed at increasing Islamic literacy amongst the youth.

“Our aim is to have children not only learn about Islam but increase their existing knowledge of Islam,” says project coordinator Quanita Kamaar.

Questions will be taken from The Five Pillars board game which has been adapted for the radio quiz .The competition is targeted towards primary school learners from the age of 10 years old. Daily prizes are up for grabs to all participants of the preliminary rounds and the winner of the final round will be awarded the grand prize Tablet computer valued at R1500 sponsored by Crescent Lifestyle.

“Participants will not walk away empty handed, regardless of whether they win or loose. We would like to reward all contestants for their efforts and willingness to learn and expand their Islam knowledge.”

The first twenty children to enter and qualify will undergo a selection process. Upon selection, parents will be called and children will be given the questions to prepare at home. The station encourages parents to assist their children.

“We asking parents to print out the list and try their hand at playing the quiz. In this way, parents can help their children revise the questions and answers which will ensure that they feel confident for the on air challenge,” says Kamaar.

Parents need to enter on their children’s behalf. Participants will be invited into studio and tested on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The names of all winners of the preliminary rounds will automatically be entered into a draw with four names being selected to compete in the finals on Eid Day

“On the quiz days, contestants will have to select one of the five pillars of Islam and will be tested based on the category they’ve chosen,” said Kamaar

The quiz starts on Monday 29th June 2015 between 2pm and 3pm and concludes on Eid day. Sms the word QUIZ the name and age of the child to 47913.
