A gang of armed robbers targeted a cash-in-transit van at a Cape Town business premises in broad daylight on Monday morning.
Six unidentified men approached three security officers who were collecting cash boxes in Sunningdale around 08:20, said Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk.
They hit one of the officers over the head with a handgun.
The group then grabbed a cash box with an undisclosed amount of money. They fled the scene in a white Toyota Camry.
It is understood that the van was parked at a petrol station next to the West Coast Village shopping centre.
Van Wyk said the vehicle was later found abandoned in a nearby road. He said a witness saw the men jumping into a red Astra sedan.
No shots were fired during the incident and the group was still on the run. Van Wyk said.
An armed robbery case was being investigated. News24
