The National Press Club has named the COVID-19 pandemic the Newsmaker of the Year for 2020. Today marks one year since Health Minister Doctor Zweli Mkhize confirmed the first positive coronavirus case in South Africa.
The annual award is based on the media coverage received as well as the impact.
When he accepted the award during a webinar last night, Mkhize took a moment to remember the more than 50 000 people who have lost their lives to COVID-19. He says the award is for all the South Africans fighting COVID-19.
