Another 80 000 Johnson and Johnson vaccines has arrived in the country.

This takes the number of the total doses the country has received in the first phase of government’s rollout programme to 160 000.Yesterday, President Cyril Ramaphosa said more J&J vaccines will be arriving in the country in the coming weeks, with more than 60 000 frontline healthcare workers having already received the one-dose vaccine.

President Ramaphosa was commenting during a live virtual question and answer session with members of the National Editors’ Forum, Sanef.

The Ramaphosa administration had come in for some strong criticism earlier this year for the perceived slow rollout of vaccines.

The President says another focus is reviving the ailing economy with infrastructure projects, among other things.
