Police are looking for a second man following a shooting and suicide at Cape Town train station on Tuesday.

It appeared to have been an armed robbery gone wrong, City of Cape Town safety and security mayoral committee member JP Smith said.

A woman became suspicious when she noticed two men wearing Muslim women’s black prayer dresses, with latex gloves over their long black gloves, around noon.

She notified security guards employed by the city, who approached the pair. They ran away and fired shots at the unarmed guards. One of them ran into the Cape Town train station and shot himself in the mouth on platform 24 when he was cornered. He died on the scene. Nobody was hurt in the shooting.

The second man got away. Smith said they had handed all CCTV footage over to police in a bid to identify him. News24
