VOC listeners can tune into Drivetime on Friday for an exclusive interview with West African scholar Shaykh Mouhamadou Mahy ibn Aliyu Cisse, a consummate spiritual guide to millions of people around the globe. Shaykh Mahy is an accomplished scholar, known for his erudition and the simplicity of his lifestyle, his patience and compassion have made him particularly popular among younger students and spiritual aspirants, internationally.

He holds a MA from Azhar University, the world’s most prestigious Islamic educational institution, and years of experience as a teacher of a diverse community of students from around the world have provided the Shaykh with a uniquely broad perspective that is especially relevant today.

Shaykh Mahy works closely with the African American Islamic Institute (AAII) – a UN approved body – by providing Health care, Education, Protection of Children, Empowerment of Women and Alleviating of Hunger and Poverty and the promotion of Peace.

Shaykh Mahy has been in the country since November 9th, visiting Soweto, Tembisa, Garankuwa and Alexandra In Gauteng area whilst also visiting Gugulethu and Khayelitsha in Cape Town.

He will be partnering with the Gift of the Givers Foundation in their “Alleviate Hunger in Africa “campaign. Hot meals will be served and food packs will be distributed at the venue the Shaykh visits furthermore “Hygiene Packs” – which contain household detergents, soap, toothpaste , toothbrush, face towels and sanitary pads will also be distributed.

An interfaith programme will be held at Soweto to bring together people from all walks of life in a display of solidarity against the prevalent social ills which afflict us all.

Shaykh Mahy has earned a reputation for remaining a paradigm of serenity, purity, and accessibility among people.
