The African National Congress (ANC) will hold its regular National Working Committee (NWC) meeting Monday morning with the Public Protector’s State of Capture report set to feature high in the discussions.
The report details how the wealthy Gupta family allegedly used its proximity with President Jacob Zuma to influence the appointment of some Cabinet ministers as well as heads and boards of some state owned companies.
The ANC NWC will have to deal with an intensifying call by some in the party for Zuma to step down following the release of the State of Capture report.
While not part of the group calling for the president to resign, SACP General Secretary Blade Nzimande says the Gupta’s influence in the running of the country is just embarrassing to the nation.
Nzimande has urged Cosatu to lead a campaign to stop what he calls the plundering of state owned entities.
