Some universities have revised examination schedules in light of the student protests.

Both Stellenbosch University and the University of the Western Cape said they would postpone exams by a week to give students adequate time to prepare.

In a statement, Stellenbosch University said this included all forms of assessment and assignments. Individual faculties would handle enquiries, it said.

It went on to say that the academic support services, such as the libraries and study centres, would be open from Saturday, while administrative and professionals support services would operate as usual from Monday.

“As usual, students who meet all the degree requirements .. will graduate in December. The SU management is attempting to avoid postponing the December graduation ceremonies by a week. An announcement in this regard will be made on Tuesday,” it said.

It said additional information could be found on the university’s website at www.sun.ac.za.

At UWC, exams would also be postponed by a week.

The university said in a statement that exams would now commence on November 2.

Students nationwide embarked on a mass protest against proposed fee hikes for 2016.

After more than a week of ongoing protests, President Jacob Zuma announced on Friday that there would be no fee increases for the following year. News24
