Two men from Belhar drowned while swimming in the sea of Mnandi beach near Strandfontein on Sunday. NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that volunteers had responded to a report of the pair being in difficulty in a rip current. The man were both in their twenties.

“There was a light breeze and half a metre swells running. Visibility was good. A search for the two men who were reported to have disappeared under the water commenced off the Mnandi parking lot,” he said.

Shortly before 18:00 the first body was found.

The NSRI rescue vessel was forced to leave the scene due to failing light.

“Shortly after the NSRI rescue vessel left the scene the second body was found by the SAPS. Both bodies have been handed into the care of Forensic Pathology Services.”
