Support final AWS on Sunday

After a phenomenal turnout over the past three Sundays, VOC rounds up its annual Ramadan Ahlan Wa Sahlan (AWS) outreach programme at Masjid Al Markaz in Kalksteenfontein on Sunday 20th July. AWS programme had its largest attendance of 700 people at last week’s outreach at Masjid ul Nasriellah in Belhar. Community members of neighbouring areas such as Delft and Blikkiesdorp flocked to the masjid to join the proceedings.

AWS co-ordinator Ebrahim Arnold expressed his gratitude towards the community as well as the masjied committee for their efforts in making Sunday’s success possible. He also praised the masjid’s enthusiasm towards the Khatam al-Quran and iftaar programmes.

“I am very proud to say that the masjid committee have been very active in getting people from Delft particularly, to join in on the iftaar programme which was funded and supported by the Gift of the Givers.  As far as the recitation of the Quran is concerned, they jumped ahead with two Khatams before we arrived. I am very happy about the donation of non-perishables and clothing. It was quite good and escalated as we went along,” he said.

With the finale outreach on Sunday, Arnold appealed to everyone to get involved in the programme. He encouraged people to reap the rewards of this month by giving charity and reading the Quran.

“We need to get out there and really support them. Come with your non-perishables and join us in the recitation of the Quran and the iftaar programme. At the end of Ramadan, I think one has to really come out and spend what Allah(SWT) has given us to try and contribute to an area in need,” he said.

“Ramadan is a month of the Quran. And I believe the best way to celebrate the Quran is to recite. And it is better to recite it collectively in the masjid. There is a major benefit just being there and reciting Quran.”

To donate, contact VOC on 021 442 3500 or drop off the donations at the Gift of the Givers offices in Athlone Industria. VOC (Thaaqib Daniels)
