A 21-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old schoolgirl in Kuilsriver.

Provincial police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said in a statement that officers were conducting an awareness campaign at Kuilsiver train station on Thursday at 10:00 when a commuter reported that a pupil, in school uniform, had got inside a nearby taxi.

“Police went to investigate and they noticed a 14-year-old girl and a man getting dressed inside the taxi. The girl was still busy pulling her pants up and tucking her school shirt into her pants,” Rwexana said.

The man was arrested for rape as the teen is a minor, she confirmed, and no injuries were sustained.

The suspect will appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Monday. News24
