A man has been hacked to death with a panga, allegedly by his stepson and friends.

The 39-year-old victim was sitting outside his home when his 17-year-old stepson arrived with four other men to attack him.

The incident happened in Ntlazane Street in Enkanini informal settlement, Khayelitsha on Sunday.

The victim’s nephew says his uncle had an argument with the teen the previous day.

“The stepson got angry after my uncle asked him if he went to school on Friday,” the nephew says.

“He became angry and started swearing at my uncle, threatening that he was going to kill him.

“On Sunday, he came with four men armed with knives and they repeatedly stabbed my uncle and hacked him with the panga.”

The 27-year-old man tried to stop them from entering.

“They broke down the doors and windows and stabbed him until he died, they made sure that he is dead,” he says.

Police spokeswoman Nasiphi Same says a case of murder is opened, and arrests are yet to be made.
