The 11th National Quran Memorization Competition kicks off

The Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) in partnership with the South African National Qur’an Council (SANQC) and supported by the Religious Office of the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Pretoria, will be hosting the 11th National Quran Memorization Competition. The event aims to create enthusiasm around Qur’an recitation and memorization in South Africa. This year is especially significant as organizers for the first time, included female participation.

The event begins with various regional competitions that are conducted across South Africa, from which the judges choose the finalist. Three students from each province qualify for the finals. The chosen three are chosen based on three categories, those whom have completed five, fifteen and thirty Ajzaa.

The males’s competition takes place on the 30 July at the Nizamiye Masjid (Turkish Masjid), Midrand.

Full Qur’an: Hafith Thaakir Salie (Qasimul Uloom)
15 Juz: Hafith Mogamat Zuhair Pather (Al Ameen Hafith Institute)
5 Juz: Hafith Mogamad Zubair Fataar (Ma’had Al Qur’an)

The inaugural Female Qur’an Memorization Competition takes place on Women’s Day on the 9 August, however, a venue has not been determined yet.

Full Quran: Raabiah Cassiem (Jameyyatul Qurra Hafith Institute)
Fifteen Juz: Aabieda Saban (Al Ameen Hafieth institute)
Five Juz: Aaminah Hendricks (Jameyyatul Qurra Hafith Institute)
