The Cape Town Regional Court is today expected to hand down judgement in alleged Parliament arsonist, Zandile Mafe’s bail application. He faces charges including terrorism and arson. During the bail application hearing last week, the State alleged that Mafe gave three reasons why he set the building ablaze: to demand president Cyril Ramaphosa’s resignation; the release of Chris Hani’s murderer, Janus Walusz; and a one-thousand-500-rand grant for unemployed people. Mafe’s defence council advocate Dail Mpofu says he should be given bail as he is not a threat to society.
