A third person arrested in connection with the murder of teacher Jayde Panayiotou will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Brigadier Marinda Mills confirmed the man was arrested in New Brighton on Sunday. The news followed the appearance of Panayiotou’s husband in the same court on Monday morning.

Christopher Panayiotou, 28, made a brief appearance and was told he faced charges of kidnapping, robbery and murder, as well as conspiracy to kill his wife.

Wearing a black suit and open shirt, he appeared quiet and reserved. The court postponed the matter until June 19 for further investigation.

He would remain in custody until then. People in the public gallery seemed relieved that he would remain in custody.

Jayde Panayiotou was abducted outside her Kabega Park home on Tuesday, April 21, while waiting for her lift to the school where she taught. She was later found dead on the outskirts of the Kwanobuhle township in Uitenhage.

Another man arrested in connection with the crimes, Thando Siyoli, 31, appeared in the same court on Thursday. Details had emerged that a substantial amount of money was allegedly paid to kill her. News24
