Thousands expected at ANC manifesto launch in KZN

People have started to gather at the Harry Gwala stadium in Pietermaritzburg ahead of the ANC’s provincial election manifesto launch.

According to the programme, President Jacob Zuma is expected to address a crowd of about 40 000 at 12 000-seater stadium.

The province has been rocked by several killings which appear to be politically linked.

In the last two weeks, four Pietermaritzburg ANC members have been killed in suspected politically linked killings. About 10 people have been killed in the province in the lead up to the August 3 municipal elections.

On Monday the ANC in the province reshuffled its Cabinet and replaced Agriculture and Rural development MEC Cyril Xaba with SACP’s provincial secretary, Themba Mthembu.

The following MEC’s – Sport, Arts and Culture’s Ntombikayise Sabhidla-Saphetha, Economic Development’s Mike Mabuyakhulu and Education’s Peggy Nkonyeni.

They were replaced by Bongi Sithole-Moloi (Sport, Arts and Culture), Sihle Zikalla (Economic Development), Mxolisi Kaunda (Transport) and Mthandeni Dlungwane (Education).

The new MEC’s were sworn in during the week.

The Inkatha Freedom Party is launching its national manifesto in Umlazi on Sunday.
