Three sentenced for attempted murder of CT attorney William Booth

Three of the suspects charged in connection with the attempted murder of prominent Cape Town attorney, William Booth, have been sentenced after entering into a plea agreement with the state.

Charges against a fourth suspect, Kim Smith have been withdrawn. Kauthar Brown, Ebrahim Deare, and Riyaad Gasant, were convicted on gang related charges, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder after pleading guilty.

Deare was also convicted for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Brown will serve an effective three years under house arrest, Gasant will serve five years behind bars and Deare has been sentenced to an effective 10 years imprisonment.

The NPA has welcomed the sentences.
