Truck crash causes traffic nightmare on N2

A truck crash on the N2 leaving the Cape Town CBD on Friday morning caused a major traffic back-up.

The truck jack-knifed on Hospital Bend and spilled diesel on the road, said Cape Town traffic spokesperson Maxine Jordaan.

Traffic had been diverted to Main Road, said Jordaan. The wet weather also contributed to the stop-start traffic.

Hospital Bend outbound has been re-opened to traffic but Jordaan warned motorists to exercise caution and maintain a safe following distance because of the rain.

She also cautioned motorists using mountain passes such as De Waal Drive above Cape Town CBD and Victoria Road in Camps Bay to be on the look-out for rockfalls as a result of wind and rain.

Frustrated motorists took to social media to share their experiences of the traffic situation. #HospitalBend was trending on Twitter. News24
