Residents in Retreat have been left shocked after two teenage boys were hit by a train at the White Road train crossing in the area earlier today. The two boys were allegedly riding on a bike and apparently did not see the oncoming train when they crossed the rail.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they found that one of the boys sustained severe head injuries.

“Unfortunately, there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared dead on scene,” said ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw.

The other boy sustained critical injuries including various fractures and head injuries. The injured boy was treated and transported by ER24 to Groote Schuur Hospital for urgent treatment.

The actual cause of the incident remains unknown and is subject to further investigation.
