Two alleged robbers, who attempted to run over a police officer while fleeing a Sea Point crime scene, were being held in custody until they are charged, Western Cape police said on Thursday.

The two – aged 27 and 29 – were arrested in St James Road on charges of attempted murder, robbery and reckless and negligent driving on Wednesday night, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said.

“The two suspects were monitored by police while they attempted to defraud a victim at an ATM in Beach Road,” he said.

“When they were approached, they fled in a VW Polo and in the process attempted to run over a police officer.”

They were nabbed a short distance away.

“The circumstances surrounding the matter are being investigated,” Traut added. News24
