With just a week left to the 2015 VOC Festival at Vygieskraal Stadium in Athlone, the organising team and VOC staff are hitting the road to promote the popular event. The marketing drive kicks off on the long weekend on Friday, with the Friday Jumuah and Afternoon Cruise teams at Masjidul Izzah’s food fair in Lavistown from 12pm to 4pm.

On Saturday from 10am to 1pm, VOC takes its hectic outside broadcast schedule to new heights, with two outside broadcasts at the same time – from the VOC Salt River studios and Winners Supermarket in Lentegeur.

Die-hard festival goers can be a step ahead of the rest by getting their tickets early. VOC listeners who join the Saturday OBs can get a special family pack of tickets (2 adults, 2 children) at R50 per pack only at these outside broadcasts. This can be used for any day of the festival.

Organisers have lined up an extensive array of events and entertainment throughout the course of the weekend.

Thursday 7 May 2015:
– The event is ushered in with a Thikr the evening, before festivities officially kick off the following night Friday 8 May. Everyone is invited to attend.

Friday 8 May 2015:
– Opening ceremony, the ever-popular Ulema soccer match, a fireworks display, and Qaseeda renditions amongst others.

Saturday 9 May 2015
– Sport will take Centre stage, with rugby, touch rugby and athletics amongst the codes on show.
– In the tea garden the Kiddie’s Party for children under 12 will open doors at 09:30 to 11h30, to 300 children on the day no registration required
– Saturday evening will include several performances on the main stage and in the tea garden.

Sunday 10 May 2015
– The Sunday will be coinciding with Mother’s Day, and in a special treat the VOC staff will be coordinating a special Mother’s Day breakfast in the tea garden. Thereafter, Yusuf Fisher will again host the ever popular Golden Hour show live.
– Different events have been lined up for each day so community members will experience different aspects of the festival through the weekend. A core focus as always will be to ensure festival-goers of all ages are catered for.
– For the more elderly members of the community, the tea garden will likely be a permanent fixture of entertainment, whilst children will be able to enjoy the fun rides that will be available.
