In an effort to keep the Palestinian struggle in the minds of South Africans, the Al-Quds Foundation will host its annual solidarity walk. The walk, titled ‘Walk for Freedom’, will take place on Sunday September 25, at Greenpoint stadium. The walk will be from Greenpoint stadium track to Seapoint.
Yunus Allie, the co-ordinator of the walk and trustee of the Al-Quds Foundation, said the organisation has been embarking on the journey of creating awareness of Palestine’s plight for 5 years. The walk will not only be taking place in Cape Town, but in Johannesburg and Port-Elizabeth as well.
Allie said the walk is an interfaith event, aimed at bringing people from different backgrounds together for one cause – the Palestinian struggle. He urged everyone to partake in the event.
“For us it is maybe just an hour or 2 hours, but for the people in Palestine it means the world. Palestinians will have the knowledge that there are people from the southern tip of Africa supporting them and this will give them courage,” says Allie.
Allie urged the public to dress in their Palestine attire and to bring their Palestinian flags for the event. The occasion will have ‘Walk for Freedom’ t-shirts for sale and there will be food sold.
The walk will begin at 08:00 am.
