More wild sea birds have died of suspected Avian Influenza in the Western Cape this past weekend.
According to the provincial Department of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Department spokesperson, James Brent-Styan says over 700 dead birds per day were collected from several areas around the province.
Officials from the department have been working all weekend to clean up suspected outbreaks and remove dead sea birds to prevent the spread of the virus.
The Bergrivier Municipality and Dyer Island in the Overberg still the hotspot areas. People are urged not to assist, touch or transport any sick birds or whose behavior they are concerned about.
