Hitler-admiring sacked Wits University SRC president Mcebo Dlamini was found guilty by a “kangaroo court” for something that happened months ago, he told SABC news on Tuesday.

“Last month, I was found guilty of something that happened one year, four months ago, even when the students said… [they are] not pressing any charges,” he told SABC news.

“That’s why I’m saying I was found guilty by a kangaroo court for a crime that happened one year, four months ago, and you ask yourself, if Wits University went on to find you guilty, on whose interest were they pressing the charges, because no one was aggrieved today.”

Misconduct

Wits vice-chancellor and principal, Professor Adam Habib, said on Monday that Dlamini was immediately required to stand down from his position after he was found guilty of misconduct, a matter which was unrelated to his comments that he admired Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.

Dlamini told Eyewitness News that Habib’s decision was “proof to everyone that white supremacy is putting its boots on the neck of the black child.”

Dlamini was found guilty of misconduct in February and sentenced to one year “suspended exclusion” for each of the charges. Habib did not give details about the charges. Dlamini failed to meet an April deadline to explain in writing why Habib should let him remain in office.

“For the purposes of clarity, I would also like to state that the separate matter of Mr Dlamini’s recent declaration of admiration for the fascist leader, Adolf Hitler, and what I believe to be racist comments regarding whites, did not influence my current decision to require him to step down,” Habib said in a statement on Monday.

“However, they cannot be ignored and I have referred the matter to the Legal Office for investigation. This matter will take its due course.”

Dlamini wrote on Facebook last month that he admired Hitler for his “charisma and organisational skills” and that there was an element of Hitler in all white men. News24
