Students from Wits University have now cancelled their march to the National Treasury in Pretoria.

They say they need more time to consult SRC’s from other universities.

Meanwhile, Wits University says it will know by Sunday whether or not to resume academic activities at the university on Monday.

The results of a poll sent out to students and staff on Thursday, is set to be released Friday afternoon.

Wits management says the poll was successful despite a few students claiming to have never received the SMS.

University spokesperson Shirona Patel, “Based on the outcome of the results, management will review the results and will use this as one of the factors and use this in order to make a decision as to whether the university should reopen on Monday. So the poll will inform decision making process of management. Management will then use this and other mechanisms, they will also try and engage with students and academics and by Sunday we should have an indication as to whether the university will reopen on Monday.”
