A hard-to-miss “Zuma Must Fall” billboard that went up in central Cape Town on Friday morning has got tongues wagging about who paid to erect it.

Many suspected it was the Democratic Alliance, after the party repeatedly called for President Jacob Zuma’s impeachment.

But DA national spokesperson Phumzile van Damme said they were not responsible.

“It isn’t ours,” she said with a chuckle.

The large advertising space hugs one side of an apartment block at the top of Long Street, on the corner of Kloof and Buitensingel streets. Renting the space is sure to cost a pretty penny.

Twitter was abuzz with speculation. Many took their own photos of the billboard, which sits above a McDonalds.

Twitter user @paulopinjr commented: “Wow!!!! The beauty of freedom of speech! I wonder how long this will stay up.”

Radio presenter and media entertainment agency owner Ian Bredenkamp tweeted that whoever put the billboard up was “someone with big balls and deep pockets”.

@Stu_Thom4s tweeted: “Guys, putting a #ZumaMustFall sign on Kloof Street is like telling Tribe customers that coffee is great. They’re there, they know…”, while @thejigg commented: “The #ZumaMustFall billboard on Long Str is all kinds of telling. Also, let’s not forget the CBD has less than 10 actual billboard sites.” News24

  1. I also say we need someone other then Zuma . The zumamustfal is clearly racially motivated by well of (rich) whites. Thinking of their businesses. The same businesses we could not participate in during apartheid. Currently support for zumamustfall is support for racism.. If it was not white driven I would have supported it. Tell these whites to share their wealth voluntarily with us. They won’t.
I’m gatvol of whites and ignorant others that think the injustice of the past has been dealt with after 20 years of democracy.
