Following a call for family and friends to claim his deceased body, Salie Hendricks was finally laid to rest at Johnstone Road cemetery on Thursday just after 12pm. Hendricks body had been laying at a non-Muslim parlour for nine days after he died in Somerset West hospital last week. The 65 year old was said to be a homeless man whose last place of residence was a shelter.
Al-Muflis Burial Services took it upon themselves to bury the body after searching for four days for any relative or friend but to no avail.
“The body was collected by me from a non-Muslim parlour in Maitland and it was taken to Heideveld masjid where the body was ghusulled and kaffanged by Boeta Giem and Haroen. The entire janazah ritual was conducted by Imam Sulaiman Isaacs,” said Ebrahim Solomon.
The burial was attended by Al-Muflis staff and an anonymous member of the public. Al Muflis rallied together to give Hendricks a decent departure, to avoid him being given a paupers funeral.
VOC this week put out a call on air to spread the word of Hendricks’ death, with the hope that someone who knew him would come forward. While this proved fruitless, the station did however receive interest from VOC listeners who wanted to donate money towards the burial service.
“Alhamdullillah, everything went off well,” Solomon added.
“I would just like to thank the staff of Al-Muflis Burial Services for their unselfish generosity.” VOC

Salaam Shaikh and The Al Muflis Burial Society
shukran for doing this selfless deed. May Allah reward you in abundance. Boeta Salie as I called him often collected sterilitzias from garden and always asked for a duah.
May Allah be pleased with him and accept him.
He once told me about a niece that is a lawyer. He didnt want to talk abouthis family other than saying ‘it is his fault’. He trusted in humanity. I am glad he had people who cared enough for a janaazah.
MAy all deeds be accepted , ameen and he be granted a space in jannah.
