ANC Western Cape chairperson Marius Fransman has been directed by national officials to step down pending the finalisation of the investigation into the alleged sexual assault charges laid against him.
“The national officials, seized with the supervision of the ANC constitution, having considered the representations from ANC structures referred the matter to the NWC [national working committee],” ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa told News24.
“The NWC directed that the chairperson step down and allow the criminal investigation and police to finalise their investigation and the [ANC] integrity commission to present its final report.”
Kodwa said there had been no indication of whether Fransman was “rejecting” the directive.
A woman accused Fransman of sexual harassment while they travelled to the North West for the African National Congress’s birthday rally in Rustenburg earlier this month.
He has denied the claims.NEWS24
