A portion of Clifton Fourth Beach remains closed to the public due to sewage flowing onto the beach.
The City of Cape Town announced via a statement on Sunday, that various departments have been activated to tend to a sewer pump station failure.
A berm has been constructed to prevent wastewater, which began pooling on the beach, from contaminating the seawater.
According to the City, repairs to the pump station are underway and the cause of the failure I sunder investigation.
“Following an assessment of the situation, a decision was taken to close only a section of the beach area. Signage has been erected, advising the public of the situation. We appreciate the public’s cooperation during this time,” read the City’s statement.
