How do you sum up your role at VOC?
I wear two hats, one as a presenter and as a sales executive. So from the presenting side: I do various shows from the religious to light hearted shows. But I enjoy both, including doing outside broadcasts.

What brought you to the VOC?
In 1999, the station invited listeners who though they had the ability, to be a broadcaster. I was one of the people who took up the challenge and I have been here ever since. I think I found my home behind the microphone.

What do you love about presenting?
When the studio lights go on, it is as if I get an adrenaline rush throughout my body. I feel very privileged being able to speak to thousands of people at any given time and know that in a small way I am making a difference in their lives. The programmes I present not only educate the listeners, but I feel like I learn something new every time I am on air.

What were you best and your most embarrassing onair moments?
My best moment on air was a day before my wedding and days before my first baby was born. Listeners called in with advice and duas which was very heartfelt. As for the most embarrassing… well I’m worried because it hasn’t happened yet!

What does the VOC mean to you?
It is  such a powerful tool, educating and inspiring the community of Cape Town.

After so many years in radio, what still inspires you?
Positive comments and feedback from the community. Also, realizing the difference we make in people’s lives by educating them on religious matter or simply by removing their pain for 3 hrs by making them laugh.

What do you like to do when you are not on the radio?
I enjoy spending time with the three women who rule my life, my wife and two daughters. I also enjoy eating – not a lot – but enough! But seriously, I do enjoy gyming and socialising.

What were you like as a kid?
I am told I was very naughty, let’s just say I had a mouth on me… So I guess I was born to be on the radio.

Most memorable interviews at VOC?
Too many to mention, from the late Talipe Petersen, David Kramer, Loukmaan and Emo Adams etc.

Which direction would you like your shows to take in future?
The religious shows – to become more interactive with comments and questions from the listeners. Saturday Live: I love the format at the moment, I would not change anything.

Tell something interesting about yourself?
I met my wife at VOC, it was her last day at the station and my first day there. Even though it doesn’t sound like it, I do have days where I am quiet. I am an avid dominoes player, and ashamedly, a very bad loser.

5 words that best describe you:
Caring, loving, funny, traditionalist, but most of all, a Dad.

I can’t get through the day without:
My family.
