With students looking ahead to the 2016 academic year, VOC is expecting a flood of applications for its annual Bursary Fund. The fund looks to set be strengthened this year with the donation of R10 000 from the Ommiedraai Friends Athletics Club.

Ommiedraai, which was established in October 2008, is one of the largest running clubs in Cape Town.  Shameegh Allie from Ommiedraai says because of their close relationship with VOC, they did not hesitate to make a donation once again. The club identified education as a crucial part of its social investment project.

“We identified education as a very integral part of our benevolence in terms of our social upliftment, so education is a crucial aspect for our athletic club,” said Allie.

“We have had an association with VOC for quite a number of years and we were one of the first clubs to be interviewed by the radio station. For that reason we have that affinity with VOC in particular.”

“It is always wonderful to support this initiative of VOC in terms of the Bursary fund.”

Ommiedraai will do an official handover which will be on the 5th February 2016.

The VOC  Bursary Fund was established as part of its social responsibility drive in giving back to the community through sponsoring students in various disciplines who cannot afford to pay their fees; be it Islamic or tertiary education. VOC’s Charity in Motion has been in partnership with organizations such as Auric Auto and Ommiedraai running club as well as other businesses and institutions. Through the years, VOC has been able to raise hundreds of thousands of rand for deserving students.

Applications for the Bursary Fund close on the 8th January 2016. This will afford matric students the opportunity to submit their final results along with their application. Current and prospective university students seeking assistance in the payment of their tuition fees are advised to download the following forms and submit their application by no later than the 8th January 2016.
