Embattled power utility Eskom announced on Monday afternoon that load shedding has moved from Stage 2 to Stage 4 from 13h00 until 22h00.

According to a statement, this is due to the unexpected loss of six additional generating units which put additional strain on the system.

Eskom has appealed to the broader public to use electricity sparingly. The utility is currently in R419 billion debt.
