The South African Civil Aviation Authority said it was investigating the crash of a light aircraft on Monday.
The crash resulted in the death of the pilot, who was the only person on board.
In a statement, the aviation authority said the incident occurred just before 11:00, between Swellendam and Bredasdorp.
The aircraft, an Eclipse EA500, had taken off from Lanseria International Airport and was bound for Cape Town International.
It said only the pilot was on board and that the aircraft was privately owned.
The cause of the incident was not yet known. NEWS24
