A 65-year-old man is expected to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Thursday after a hydroponic dagga laboratory was discovered on a Richwood smallholding.

The bust on the premises, situated outside Durbanville, was made on Tuesday following an investigation by Western Cape police detectives, police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said.

“After finding two garden enclosures in which dagga plants of different sizes were growing, they uncovered a hydroponic dagga lab in a stable situated alongside the house,” he said.

The plants, lights, fans, and extractors were confiscated.

Van Wyk said the estimated street value of the haul had yet to be determined, but was likely to be a “substantial amount”.

The man would face charges of drug dealing. News24
