An 18-year-old student was seriously injured when he fell out the window on the third floor of a student residence in Cape Town early on Saturday morning, paramedics said.

The student fell two storeys and landed on a balcony on the first floor of the same building, ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said.

The incident happened around 05:00.

“[Paramedics] found that the young man had sustained serious fractures to the lower part of his body.

“Access to the patient was first only attainable through a window.”

Cape Town Fire and Rescue services used a Bronto Skylift to lower the patient down to the ground floor so that paramedics could continue treatment, said Rossouw.

The man was taken to New Somerset Hospital.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were unknown. NEWS24
