The Economic Freedom Fighters must take responsibility for the attempted “land grab” in Nellmapius, Pretoria, Gauteng premier David Makhura said on Wednesday.

“This land grab taking place in Tshwane by the EFF is something we condemn completely and we want the law enforcement agencies to act firmly against those who are behind this,” he told reporters in Johannesburg.

“Finally at least we are happy there is a member of the EFF who has said it’s the EFF because it is something we suspected in a number of areas and the EFF must take responsibility.”

Makhura said the province had alerted all its municipalities.

“[This] is something we’ve been tracking in a number of areas.”

He said the Tshwane municipality would be going to court over the so-called “land grab”.

Earlier on Wednesday, groups who had lined a road in Nellmapius dispersed after rubber bullets were fired at them after they threw stones at metro police.

Large groups of people arrived in the area to demand they be given free land to build their own houses. SAPA
