At least 100 people have been displaced after two fires in Cape Town, the city’s fire and rescue services said on Sunday.

The first fire broke out at Military Heights informal settlement in Seawinds around 18:00 on Saturday, said spokesperson Theo Layne.

Up to 70 wood and iron structures were destroyed, leaving between 100 and 150 people homeless.

Three hours later, a fire started in Canterbury Street in Elsies River.

A dwelling and three wood and iron structures were destroyed. Seven people were displaced.

Layne said no one was injured or killed in the fires. News24
