South Africans were sick and tired of President Jacob Zuma, and that was why the ANC could not fill a stadium during their manifesto launch, DA leader Mmusi Maimane believes.

The ANC launched its election manifesto in Nelson Mandela Bay, at the 46 000 seater stadium, which was not filled to capacity despite the ANC vowing 100 000 supporters would be there to support it.

Maimane said South Africans loved the Constitution and did not want to watch it being broken.

“The people of Nelson Mandela Bay are sick of the ANC. How do you have a new mayor every year? A mayor is not fashion, you can’t change it every year,” said Maimane.

He said the only people at the manifesto launch were friends of ministers and family friends.

Maimane said the DA’s chances of snatching the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro from the ANC were looking very good right now.

“We are confident there. I think (mayoral candidate) Athol Trollip will do very well.”

He said the mood had changed in the ANC stronghold of the Eastern Cape, making it easier for parties to chip at the cracks.

“But it’s changing everywhere. Not just in Nelson Mandela Bay. South Africans are not fools,” said the DA leader.

Maimane said he was confident about the DA’s chances but his biggest worry regarding the upcoming elections was the integrity of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
