A man was shot dead metres from his car which was stuck in the sand at Blue Waters Beach in Strandfontein on Monday morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut confirmed the victim was a 26-year-old man.
“No one has been arrested as yet,” he said.
The motive for the murder is still under investigation and details remain sketchy, said Mitchell’s Plain Cluster Community Police Forum chairperson, Hanif Loonat.
He pointed out that this particular stretch of the False Bay coast was notorious for being a dumping ground for murderers.
“Countless bodies have been found buried or tossed in the vicinity over the years,” he said.
“This is happening too often. Police need to improve their visibility in this vicinity.”
Loonat confirmed he would be meeting with Strandfontein police station management shortly to discuss an operational plan for the area. News24
