Community members came out in their numbers to support Mitchells Plain father, Sedick Abrahams, who appeared in the Mitchell’s Plain court on Wednesday morning. Abrahams is charged with murder after stabbing his son to death at their Tafelsig home in January this year during a heated argument, allegedly in self-defense. The son, Clint Abrahams, a drug addict, had apparently threatened his father with a knife and is said to have multiple episodes of violent behaviour towards his parents. The case was postponed to 29 May 2018 for further investigation. The prosecution informed the court that crime scene photos, the details of the postmortem and other information remains outstanding. The Mitchell’s Plain Impact Association on Wednesday called for charges to be dropped against the 61-year-old father.

Outside court, a stoic Sedick Abrahams told journalists it has been a difficult journey grappling with the magnitude of what has happened.

“I feel okay, just a bit nervous. It has not been easy, there are times when it is going okay and then there times when it is not. But, the family has stood together.”

Abrahams further urged community members to combat the scourge of drug abuse within the community.

Meanwhile, Sedick’s wife, Myrtle, said her son would steal everything in their home to feed his addiction.

“Clinton was very naughty in my home. Everyone loved him outside. But, in my home I hid my fridge away for three years. If i went to sleep I would sleep with my two-plate stove and my kettle, because I was afraid he would burn us if he was angry that he does not have money for tik.”

Myrtle said she would have hoped the South African Police Service had intervened when she requested their assistance during previous incidents of violence at the home.

“On December 31, 2018, Myrtle Abrahams called them. SAPS can check on their system. They never arrived. I had to pray that Clinton slept, because I could not leave the home.”
