South African comedian Riaad Moosa has ignited a Twitter storm with a hashtag called #MuslimNotExtremist, in a bid to trash stereotypes about Muslims. On Monday, Moosa put out a call to his Muslim twitter users to use the hashtag to express who they are and to publically state that they refuse to be labelled as extremist. The #Muslink campaign and the hashtag #MuslimNotExtremist have been trending since Monday, as more Muslims show their support.

Muslink is a TV talk show created by Moosa to celebrate Muslim excellence. The comedic actor will interview leading Muslim personalities from South Africa who have made significant contributions to the development of society in the fields of social upliftment, commerce, sciences, research and academics, arts and culture and sport.

On Monday, the medical doctor started the conversation by tweeting: I’m a Doctor, Comedian, Actor, Father and Husband #MuslimNotExtremist #Muslink. He then set off a flurry of responses from fellow comedians, including Yaaseen Barnes and Simmi Areff.

@simmiareff tweeted: “Comedian, Writer, Son and Brother #MuslimNotExtremist #Muslink”

@Ya_a_seen_Him wrote: “Comedian and person that does other stuff. #muslimnotextremist #muslink”

Jewish comedian Deep Fried Man showed his support by tweeting: “#SomeOfMyBestFriendsAreMuslim and on the weekend we get together to not eat bacon.”

Radio Islam producer Ejaz Khan had a humourous take. Through his account @ejaz_k , he said “I laughed when watching The Dictator, and didn’t take notes. #MuslimNotExtremist. #Muslink”

Enca journalist Yusuf Omar added: “I like water slides, Halloween parties and taking pictures will Juju. #MuslimNotExtremist #Muslink”

The dialogue series takes place at the CTICC on 30th April from 7am to 11am. Follow @MuslinkSA or like the Facebook page MuslinkSA. VOC

  1. sometimes non-professionals and professionals like dr riaad have a much better track record than our professional clergy when it comes to inter religious etc contact and relationships

  2. I responded to Riaad and explained that muslims can post family pictures and look as friendly as they want, but the quran and authentic hadith says something different, it says that unbelievers are the most vilest of creatures. It also says that the last days will not come abt until the rocks and trees cry out oh muslim oh servant of allah there is a jew hiding behind me!!!! Come and decapitate his head…there’s 119 verses that speaks abt killing the unbelievers that’s sad ,so muslimnotextremist support yourselves with the quran not pics
