Police on Tuesday denied a report that a man had detained for the murder of Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa.

“There have been no arrests,” said Brigadier Neville Malila.

ANN7 reported on social networking site Twitter that a man who looked “familiar to one of the identity kits released by police” had been detained and taken in for questioning.

Meyiwa, a goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates and the national team, was shot in his upper body in the Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, while visiting his girlfriend, singer and actress Kelly Khumalo, on Sunday night.

One shot was fired inside the house and two more were fired randomly outside.

The attackers used a .38 revolver so no cartridges were left on the scene, police said on Monday.

The attackers demanded cellphones and money.

National police commissioner Riah Phiyega announced on Monday that she had set up a multi-disciplinary task team made up of forensic, crime intelligence, and visible policing members to handle the case.

A reward of up R250,000 was being offered for information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the killers. SAPA
