The grandson of one of the four people shot dead in the Nyanga gang killing spree has been arrested on a murder charge.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut confirmed that the grandson, who cannot be identified until he appears in court, was arrested at 83-year-old Nomalizo Khuthu’s funeral on Saturday.
Khuthu was one of the four people, including an eight-year-old boy, who were shot dead in Nyanga on April 20.
Two other people were also shot and wounded.
Traut said the grandson was arrested in connection with the murder of Goodman Kani, 41, who was shot dead in Mau Mau, on the same day as Khuthu.
“During a revenge attack, the suspect’s grandmother was shot and killed. Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murder cases led to his arrest yesterday.”
Traut said the grandson is due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
