Eskom has announced that it will implement stage 2 load shedding from 10:00 on Sunday morning.
“This is due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages,” the power utility said.
Load shedding was expected to continue until 22:00.
Eskom said it wanted to assure customers that load shedding was only implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system from a complete blackout.
The parastatal called on South Africans to reduce the load on the electricity grid by switching off geysers, air conditioners, pool pumps and non-essential appliances throughout the day. news24
