Wynberg Boys in lead at Rugby Fest 2016

Wynberg Boys’ beat St John’s College 38-12 on day one of their annual rugby festival.

The hosts led 14-12 at the break after both teams scored two first-half tries, with Wynberg fullback Labib Kannemeyer then scoring two second-half tries to put the result beyond doubt.

St John’s opened the scoring after eight minutes through flyhalf Kieran Houlston, but Wynberg Boys’ replied with two converted tries through wing Abdul Armien and flank Michael Scholtz. Flyhalf Dominic Coetzer added the extras.

St John’s centre Quintus Kilbourn scored a try, with Houlston kicking the conversion, to close the gap to just two points at half-time.

Kannemeyer scored his first try early in the second half. Lock Yanga Ngcayisa then went over for the hosts’ fourth before Kannemeyer grabbed his second.

Earlier on day one, Rondebosch Boys’ scored six tries, including a hat-trick by centre DJ Falconer, to beat KES 38-12 after leading 17-5 at half-time.

SACS came back strongly to beat Maritzburg 27-20 after they found themselves 13-0 down after 18 minutes.
