ANC Western Cape secretary Faiez Jacobs has been placed on precautionary suspension after being accused of beating up a colleague for failing to write a report on the organisation.

The suspension follows a post on Facebook by Anda Qhama Bici, with a picture of researcher Wesley Seale bleeding.

In a statement on Wednesday, ANC Western Cape leader Marius Fransman said officials met to discuss the matter and decided to refer it to the internal disciplinary process.

He said Jacobs had been put on precautionary suspension pending the outcome of the disciplinary process. And the researcher would be on leave for two weeks.

In the post on Facebook, which was shared widely, Bici said: “A decent hard-working ANC researcher of the ANC Western Cape province, Comrade Wesley Seale, was assaulted by Western Cape ANC provincial secretary for not writing an organisational report which the prov secretary asked him to write.

“What kind of an ANC elected leader assaults a staff member? INSIDE THE ANC OFFICES NOGALLL! What kind of a provincial secretary can’t write an organisational report? It’s a constitutional responsibility of a secretary to write and prepare reports, not a staff member. ITS NOT A DELEGATED FUNCTION. Unmask & Expose!!!!! #?FaiezJacobsMustFall”

Thandi Manikivana, deputy provincial secretary, will be acting in Jacobs’ position in the meantime. News24
