A man has been left seriously injured after a roof collapsed on top of him on Robert Sobukwe Road on Wednesday morning, emergency services said.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said in a statement paramedics, along with Metro and fire services, arrived on the scene and found that the roof of the abandoned build had collapsed, leaving rubble scattered all over the road.

“The rescue team immediately began to remove the rubble to gain access to the patient. After ten minutes, paramedics were able to retrieve the patient and move him to safety,” Meiring said.

They found that the man had sustained serious injuries to his leg.

Paramedics treated the patient and provided him with advanced life support treatment. He was then transported to Tygerberg Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Meiring said while the cause of the collapse is not yet known, local authorities would continue their investigation. News24
