Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and other senior politicians are expected to visit a number of primary and high schools across the country on Wednesday, as schools prepare for the start of their 2016 curriculum.

Ramaphosa and Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi will hand over a new school to the Daveyton community, east of Johannesburg.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will be visiting a school in Mamelodi, Tshwane, as part of the department’s flagship programme called “Learn to Read” – aimed at entrenching a culture of reading among youngsters.

Congress of the People leader Mosiuoa Lekota will be visiting Dower Glen High school in Edenvale, in the East Rand.

Transport MEC Ismail Vadi will also visit a number of schools in Bronkhorstspruit as part of Gauteng’s school readiness programme.

In KwaZulu-Natal, Premier Senzo Mchunu is expected to visit schools north of the province in Eshowe and Mbonambi to assess their state of readiness.

Co-operative governance MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube would visit a school in Kwa-Mashu to check its state of readiness.

In the Eastern Cape, Deputy Minister of Basic Education Enver Surty will be visiting and assessing schools in Qumbu. News24
